Word game

Sometimes ( or most of the time)...I really don't know what to do with Ryan. Apart from school homework, watching Disney Junior, playing computer games and doing outdoor activities like cycling and playing ball...he doesn't really have much interests at the moment.

He doesn't enjoy playing Lego and reading books which I wished he did. I would take him to the book store and ask him to get ANY books he wanted...and he would just shrug and say Dunno.

Ryan spends most of his time playing what his sister plays...or watches what his sister watches. I wish that I had more time to spend with him...but unfortunately, I don't.

The other day, after seeing a mother's blog on home activities with her kids...it gave me an idea to play this word game with him. I think I read this activity from her blog...but anyway here is the link to 'The Activity Mom' blog. It is a great blog to get ideas on what to do with your little one.

Here is my version of the word game that I play with the boy...
Choose 2 alphabets ...and try to make as many words starting with that alphabet. Since Ryan loves to count, I made it into a battle between the 2 alphabets. And see which alphabet will have the most words. He gets to practice his spelling, widen his vocabulary, writing and also to think quickly.

Btw, the timetable that I wrote about a few months back...no more following. After some time, I couldn't keep up to it. And got abit lazy too. :p When he asked why we are not following it anymore, I told him that I am coming up with a new one soon!

Wah, I really salute mothers with so much creative juices on what to do with kids at home. For me, i just make sure Vic finish homework, practice piano, any extra time she play ipad or comp games with my permission, or watch tv 15 minutes, most of the time she won't have that time lar. but thanks for the word game idea... i'll try it out with her...

Same here..I think Darren is also like Ryan. Sometimes he plays what the mei mei is playing (slaphead)..

Thanks for sharing the idea. I think I can share this game with Darren too.

I'm ashamed to admit that although I am a SAHM, I don't spend enough time with Chloe and we hardly engage ourselves in any stimulating activities like this. This word game sounds interesting and I shall try playing it with her. Although she reads a lot, she's not good in spelling though...
