Started attempting to potty train Ally about 2 weeks ago.
Ally has just turned 2.5 years in the new year. So thought that it is about time for her to begin her 'training'.
Got her some underwear.
Used Ryan's old potty and toilet seat.
So far, not getting anywhere.
Problem with this little girl...she rather hold her urine for hours (can be up to 5 hours) than to let it go in the potty or jamban. Every 15 to 30 mins, I will ask her whether she wants to urine. Sometimes she says "Yes!" and I will take her to sit on the jamban. But she starts playing with the toilet paper or just sits for awhile and quickly wants to come down. So, she holds it until she tells me pain and holds on to her crouch. Even at that point, she still doesn't want to let it go in the toilet. Once I put on the diaper for her....within a minute...she lets it all go into the diaper! Even when she really needs to go and refuses to go to the toilet, she will insist "Wear diaper! Wear diaper!"
Any advice?
With Ryan last time being a boy...he will just have 'accidents' on the floor or sofa...that would be easier to train him and let him know the consequences of peeing in other places besides the toilet.
29th Jan:
Within the same week after I wrote this post... Ally began her pee business in the jamban. No more spills. She would tell me"Urine!Urine!" and holding her 'crouch' and most of the time...she will 'release' the flow. I am very happy with my little girl. Up until now, she will let us know and when we are at home, she will go diaperless. For the 'big business' part...still yet to train.

guess each kid have different timing. Mine used to refuse also but after a few months i tried again, he did do his business in potty
Yea, each kid different... so if she's not ready yet, then maybe wear the diaper back for her, not good to hold urine for 5 hours or until pain. Then pap talk her/brainwash her about being big girl - see, mummy daddy don't wear diaper also... hehe... My W still wearing diaper when he naps and sleeps at night... too much urine from too much milk. How to train? I also headache... need your advice!
A reward maybe for letting go in the potty?
5 hours is such a long time to hold. On the bright side, once she IS toilet-trained you won't have to rush to the toilet when she tells you she has to pee!
The reward system worked for Elyssa last time. For my greedy girl, FOOD was the ultimate reward :)
Cornflakes for each successful pee in the potty. Then it was one pc of chocolate for each successful poo in the potty.
There were some misses in between esp at the beginning, but we (well, ,mainly my mum) just kept on encouraging her. No scolding or any negative remarks. Go for the positive.
I trained my girl at 18 months and it look me a few weeks. I will smack her lightly for every accident and put her on cloth diapers so I now when she wet the diaper. Now that she is 3 plus soon to be 4, I am still struggling to train her to wake up at night. She still uses diaper at night. Sigh....
Keira could hold it in for a very long time too. Sometimes six hours one pee! When I was training her, she refused to to the big one in the toilet. So one day when she needed to poo, but her mental block insisted on wearing nappy, I closed the door and told her we were not going out of the toilet until she did her business there. so no choice, she did it, and after that no more mental block.
